Jayapura, 2/25 (Jubi) – First Deputy Chairman of the Papuan Legislative Council ( DPR Papua), Yunus Wonda, said discussions on plans to split Papua province into three were not on the agenda yet.

There has been a proposal to create two more provinces off Papua — South Papua province and Central Papua province.
“Until now we haven’t  discussed  the proposal both in 2012 and 2013 parliament meetings. This proposal is not on DPRP’s agenda yet. Currently, we just focus on splitting regencies and cities,” said Wonda on Tuesday (2/25).

Wonda hopes, prospective regents in New Autonomous Region ( DOB) would serve people by improving their welfare and government services.

Earlier, the First Deputy Chairman of DPRP’s Commission A overseeing Government, Legal and Human Rights Affairs, Yanni, said there is still a possibility of discussing  proposals for divisions at both provincial and regencies/ cities levels this year.

The new government and legislative body may be able to address the issue, she said.

“Southwest Papua and South Papua could have been established as this plan has been proposed for about 12 years ago. Still, the process is still stuck due to some administrative constraints ” she added. (Jubi / Arjuna/Tina)
