Jayapura, 23/2 (Jubi) – The Commission D of the Papua Representative Council for highlighted infrastructure development in Papua.

The head of DPR Papua’s Commission D, Yan P Mandenas told tabloidjubi.com on Monday (23/2) that his commission the provincial Public Works Department and other agencies should improve their performance, including in the areas of human resources, budgeting and quality control.
He said the commission asked the Head of Public Works Department to carefully vet contractors assigned with infrastructure development projects.
The Public Works Department must ensure that implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of a project are done in accordance to the rules and procedures.

“We emphasized to the assigned consultants whether they used GPS or doing a survey. I believe most of the consultants were depending on GPS, not on the result of surveys. Ideally they must have the information both from GPS and the surveys for the accountability and the efficient use of their budgets,” said Manderas. He added the commission will further highlight the multi-year project of the construction of Ring Road Jayapura City and Holtekam Bridge which were already absorbing a lot of funds.

Earlier, Head of Public Works Department of Province Papua, Maikel Kambuaya said the construction of Ring Road Jayapura City was expected to be finished in the next three years and would need additional 250 billion rupiahs to complete.
“The ring road project cost 70 billion from the Provincial budget this year while Holtekam Bridge, a multiyear project for the next five years is expected to cost 900 billion. The Provincial Government of Papua has allocated 60 billion for this year” he said.

According to him the budget for this 600 meters bridge was classified into three segments: small, medium and large. “Large segment was using the National Budget while medium was funded by  the Provincial Budget. And the Regional Budget of Jayapura City take the small segment, he said. (Jubi/Arjuna/rom)
