Jayapura , 20/1 (Jubi) – Youth Leaders of Mimika, Markus Dibitau and Jerry Dibitau, asked the government’s intervention for resolving the protracted conflict which is causing the tribal war in Mimika at this time being.

“The tribal war between Mee, Moni and Dani clans that took place since yesterday was about the customary land grabbing along the trans-road Timika-Paniai,” Markus Dibitau told to the reporters in Prima Garden Café, Abepura, Kota Jayapura, Papua, Thursday afternoon (30/1)
Markus regrets this situation because in fact the land along the trans-road is actually belongs to the Moni Clan but has been claimed by Dani Clan. Actually the conflict has been taking place since 2009 but never get the attention either from the local government nor the provincial government of Papua. “Now two people are critically hospitalized in Caritas Hospital Mimika. Therefore, I request the students and related stakeholders to sit together for resolving this issue,” Markus asked.
Related to the conflict resolution efforts, Jerry Dibitau, Chairman of the South Moni Customary Institution (Lemasmos), said his party had asked the party who got the trans-road construction project to sit together for questioning about who will be responsible on the project’s impact but there is no satisfactory answer.
“I asked the responsibility of both the government of Mimika District and Papua Province to do mission to the location and conduct an investigation on this case. This must be urgently done in order to get the right solution,” Jerry said to the reportets in Prima Garden Café, Abepura, Jayapura, Papua, Thursday afternoon (30/1).

Jerry thought the government was ignorant on this situation. Therefore he asked the government for to be assertive. The government should be able to conduct the approaches to minimize the conflict and victim as well as to mediate this conflict. (Jubi/Aprilia/P. Maizier)
